Again, how is that any different?  You are getting back a new Reader and 
assigning it to the same variable name.

Directory d2 = new RAMDirectory(); // Okay
IndexWriter w = new IndexWriter(d2); // Sure

r = writer.getReader() // WTF Indeed!
