Added more diagnostics to rule out an "almost miss" for an intersection.  No 
such situation found.

The diagnostics basically show we're doing the right thing, but we get 
different counts based on the path we choose.  The counts differ because there 
is an intersection found for one path and no intersection is found for the 
other path.  It's beginning to look like that intersection that is detected is 
spurious in some way.
