David Smiley commented on SOLR-12593:
-------------------------------------
Honestly I don't know about their usages in the wild (I could google it as well
as the next person). I observed these patterns with a name of the pattern
(RFC/ANSI whatever) in the ExtractionDateUtil which in turn, AFAIK, was taken
from a similar Apache HTTP Component utility class DateUtil. Adjacent to "ANSI
C", there's a comment about it being {{asctime()}}. RFC-1123, BTW, even gets
its own constant in {{java.time.DateTimeFormatter}}.
Go for it Bar.

> The date parsing functionality in the extraction contrib is obsoleted by
> equivalent functionality in ParseDateFieldUpdateProcessorFactory. It should
> be removed. We should add documentation within this part of the ref guide on
> how to accomplish the same (and test it).
