If you go "down" from 4 you'll see the difference real cores make -- 4 is pretty much saturated I7 (I have the same). If somebody has more than 4 physical cores they will see a difference (I think, I don't have access to such a machine). Memory bandwidth also comes into play here so it won't scale perfectly I bet.
