Steve: I'd agree these differences are intentional and while I labeled them
suspicious initially, each appears to check out as expected.
However, for one, I'd like to nuke the var expansion anyway :), and two, we
should check with Roman about what the issue is in regards to big top
integration and see what we can do to smooth things out if possible.
