Why don't we have a demo instance running on a server with the latest version(s) of Solr with dummy data. So that people can see/try different features on the fly.
And once in a day or so, we can clean up the index and re-index the default sets of documents. Because people could add some dummy documents to test their features. or we can disable updates so that people won't mess up the sample index.
