For that reason, when using markdown, it is recommended to use inline mardown code quoting using backquotes like this: `latex math code here`. I personally use lyx and then cut-and-paste formulas into backquotes and it works. however, back to the issue, it doesn't work for me in ubuntu chrome anymore.
