What I managed to observe is that API changes mainly on new 1.X releases, which
happens in average every 4 months.
I checked bigger bunch of plugins and it seems that almost all of them have
diff. versions for diff. 1.X versions of ES and big amount of them is far
behind the ES 1.6, so even providing plugin for version 1.5 will be a good
thing I think and in future maybe something will change (it's a pity that there
aren't already any possibilities to modify query by plugin in other way than
modifying REST handlers, but maybe they will provide something like that in
some future version of ES).
