While I can see that commercial mentality would stop other commercial
vendors from implementing their own solution, i don't see the point
about independent os-projects. How many times has something with the
same functionality been produced by distinct OSS projects side by side?
I don't see why MS' move should prevent any other project from working
on that - besides the fact, of course, that everyone might wait and see
what happens there.

But then I also wonder what happened to that rumored plugin the ODF
Foundation was having in development for Massachusetts? Any news on that
one? I would doubt that they'd drop their effort suddenly because of MS'
announcement.
