Yes, but that isn't the point. We are where we are...

There will be a vote on ECMA's dispositions at the BRM and the NBs have the opportunity to change their September 2 position before the end of March.

Voting 'no' at this point is *not *a rejection of OOXML, -- It's simply a
vote to move it to the *normal* standards creation track where there would
be the time to take it apart and properly address the thousands of issues
with OOXML that really need to be seriously looked at. <snip />

The big issue is this. If the NBs do not get "their act together" and have a good handle on which comments/dispositions to discuss at the BRM then it is possible, if not likely, that dis29500 will get passed. M$ are playing hardball and will go to extreme lengths to ensure it's success.

Our intention with www.dis29500.org is to aid the NBs in focusing on that which needs discussion and not to get bogged down in a morass of inconsequential debate on issues which are not important.

From the way I understand it, if after the BRM, the NBs do not change their September 2nd voting positions, i.e. vote is still "no", then DIS29500 has failed. It will be up to Microsoft/ECMA to submit a new specification if they so desire.

From the FAQ (http://www.jtc1sc34.org/repository/0932.htm):

4.5 What if there is not time in the meeting to satisfy NBs’ concerns?
If NBs find the outcome of the BRM inadequate then their recourse is to disapprove the DIS.

5.2 How long will NBs have after the meeting to inform ITTF of a changed vote? If a NB wishes to modify its vote from that of the 2 September ballot, it must inform ITTF within 30 days of the end of the BRM. At this time, ITTF will re-tally the votes and the fate of DIS 29500 will be decided.

Hope this helps.

Alan
