There is already a system that does this at Apache, under jakarta-alexandria.
In fact, I'm in the process of closing down the project in accord with the Jakarta PMC.
In that project, there are two things that may interest Maven:
- JavaSrc -> generates colored html from java files with a low memory
two pass system and full cross-indexing
- XmlDoclet
and stylesheets -> generate xml version of javadocs and have
stylesheets (comprising a xml2dot one) that
transform in various formats
