I won't go into them here, but prerequisites had a number of issues in
Maven 1.x, and was part of the reason we moved to the lifecycle of m2.
The original m2 had pre/post goals and prereqs. I'd expect you'd find
more about this in the archives.

I still believe the lifecycle concept is solid and have posted some more
detailed thoughts in another mail.
