Maybe I should have read the thread properly from the beginning. My suggested improvement to plugin-plugin seems to be what has already been done to fix the problem for the long run. However the further suggestion might solve the problem now and could be kicked out in maven 3.x or whenever each plugin does have a help goal. The only thing is that it needs to be done in maven-core and can NOT be made available via a plugin release but only by a new maven version explicitly updated by the users.
