my apologies for the red herring. my failure was not moblin exactly.
i have a setup script that i run after boot and one of its commands is
'hostname EeePC'.
executing that command breaks the accessory launch i was whining about.
i take that out and the netbook works fine as localhost.
again, sorry about the false report, jackc...
