Hi everyone,

I would like to formally propose the establishment of a Scottish Gaelic
native language project for OpenOffice.org. My team has been working on a
localisation of OpenOffice.org into this language for the last year and
version 1.1.1 is almost ready for release. We aim to complete the
localisation by the end of February.

The Scottish Gaelic localisation has been funded by the Scottish Executive
(http://www.scotland.gov.uk) through an organisation called Learning and
Teaching Scotland (http://www.ltscotland.org.uk). In addition to localising
the OpenOffice.org application itself, for both Linux and Windows platforms,
we have produced a significant amount of supporting materials, tutorials and
custom help content in Scottish Gaelic.

It is hoped that the initial development phase for this localisation will
continue, either on a formal or informal basis, so that we can soon provide
OpenOffice.org 2.0 and forthcoming versions in Gaelic as well. The
establishment of an NLP for this initiative would help us greatly in
attracting assistance for future development and also in providing an
effective forum for discussion of linguistic and technical issues that have
arisen in the course of the 1.1.1 localisation effort.

Many thanks

Evan Brown
