I'd like to change some of the script generated stuff like the interface
to the mail archives:

If one looks at hte mail archives page, you can see tabs for 'by author'
'by date' etc. as well as labels like 'total messages' and 'list address'.
I'd like to change those. Marko from the Finnish project explained a work
around for the static pages using CSS, but those can't be used here.

Actually, what are you looking for exactly? Do you wish to change the
page layout?
People such as Andras Timar from the Hungarian team have been rather
good at changing them. In any occasion , Louis might be the right person
to ask.
