Hi,

I'd like to bring in some experiences from setting up the Marketing Project wiki here, in order to better make use of the wiki features. Some of them are already used, some would be good to implement, but most important is a policy of using the wiki in a manner that will allow everybody to know what belongs where and to whom:

1. CATEGORIES:
Categories automatically index the pages and sub-categories in alphabetical order.

Example from Marketing:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Category:Marketing

NLC category I have setup:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Category:NLC

...would be good to index the main page for each NLC project into this category, by adding in the first line this: [[Category:NLC]]

this will automatically index that page under NLC project category and make a link to this category appear in that page.

2. SUBCATEGORIES:
Like the German project does, they have created a category named de.openoffice.org that indexes all pages under DE project. All they need to do is to add the [[Category:NLC]] to their category page and they will appear in the NLC category page as sub-category.

This is usefull for projects already having more than one page.
To create a sub-category of NLC use this:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Category:yournlcname.openoffice.org
and in the first line add: [[Category:NLC]]

3. NAMING and NAMESPACES:
Like one of MP contributors who setup the wiki in the current form outlined, having names in the form of sub-directories:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/NLC/ro.openoffice.org

..is the right way to do it as wikimedia will automatically recognize ro.openoffice.org as belonging to NLC. Same would go for pages under /NLC/ro.openoffice.org

4. TEMPLATES:
If you look at Marketing Project wiki
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Marketing
you will notice the nice box in the right side of the page which is a template that can be defined in the wiki to automatically index pages in certain categories and show relevant navigation links in a set of pages. If you see fit and need help, I can setup such a general template for NLC and also, each NLC project can setup their own navigation in this way.

FINAL NOTE:
Please take a look at the wiki participation instructions on the Marketing wiki main page for instructions and judge wether they are to be implemented or not in the NLC too.

My latest discussions with Stefan led to the necessity of better organizing the wiki and there will be changes comming up in the near future, but for now, the above lines (extracted from the great contributions of user RealGrouchy in Marketing Wiki) are some first directions to evaluate and take into account.

~hope this helps

Best,
Cristian
