Here you can see the result of our little contest for locilized
splash:

From my POV the second one fits better with our visual identity:
- the logo stands on an unchanged background
- the language identifier is at a position where is doesn't "disturb"
the visual impression
- the coloring scheme is kept as it is.

But the first impression is: This splash screen differs from the
"original" one:
- The Hungarian colors are more important than the OOo logo.
- The logo doesn't have it's impact as it doesn't stand alone.
[...]
I think that localized splash based on original splash like the
example which I gave will help for integrating OOo in language
communities more. English is not my native language, and I hope you
could undestand what I mean.
Of course I can :-)
My native language isn't English either ;-)
I don't have any problem with localized splash screens if:
- they keep the original impression
- there is a dedicated area where localized information are supposed to
be positioned.
But these points have to be decided beforehand - modifying the present
splash screen is not the right way IMHO, even if it might be possible
from a marketing POV.
The splash screen competition ended with an official voting by the
entire community. I would feel I'd ignore this voting if I wanted to
implement splash screen modifications.
What we are able to do:
- Implement a native-lang area in the to-be-designed splash screen for
OpenOffice.org 3. For this reason please join
art@marketing.openoffice.org and our discussion there.
- If the majority here thinks waiting for OOo3 takes too long, and it
would be necessary to implement such an area in the present splash
screen for all the localized versions (we could try to convince a
developer to do the coding for changing the screen), then there should
be another voting on [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Personally I don't think the second option is necessary, as there are
much better possibilities to do localized marketing beforehand. But this
is just my personal opinion, so please convince me of the opposite ;-)
Best regards
Bernhard
