Here is the Annual Report of the Italian Native-Lang Project. Maintainers are Davide Dozza and myself.
Creation of Associazione PLIO ----------------------------- In February 2007, the OpenOffice.org Italian Native-Lang Project announced the creation of Associazione PLIO: the Italian community of volunteers who develop, support and promote OpenOffice.org is now formally recognized as a no-profit organization by the Italian law. This means Associazione PLIO will be able to receive donations and to participate in public discussions as a recognizable entity. Davide Dozza is acting as President of Associazione PLIO. Participation in OOXML discussions ---------------------------------- Associazione PLIO joined UNINFO, the Italian ISO/IEC JTC1 national bodies, and took part in national discussions about the fast-track process for the Microsoft-authored Office Open XML (OOXML) format. After thorough scrutiny of the proposed standard, PLIO indicated a number of issues that had to be addressed before OOXML could be recognized as a standard; the Italian National Body decided to abstain during the September 2007 vote. Development ----------- Giuseppe Castagno, a member of Associazione PLIO who had already written some OpenOffice.org components, wrote the extended PDF export filters which will be included in OpenOffice.org 2.4. Paolo Mantovani, founding member of Associazione PLIO, continued his work on OpenOffice.org macros. Downloads and QA ---------------- Associazione PLIO coordinated QA on all Italian OpenOffice.org releases. We had more than 1,800,000 downloads of the Italian version in 2007. Localization ------------ Associazione PLIO took over from SUN the responsibility for localizing the OpenOffice.org interface and online help into Italian. Italian was one of the first languages to adopt the new translation infrastructure. Website ------- Despite the usual infrastructure problems, volunteers from Associazione PLIO revamped portions of the http://it.openoffice.org website, with more changes to come in future. Press and marketing ------------------- Many press releases and articles are sent out by Associazione PLIO every month. This results in an increased media exposure, with interviews and articles appearing on main Italian newspapers. Over 2000 articles related to OpenOffice.org appeared on Italian media in 2007. Associazione PLIO also sponsored Premio Oltrecosmo, a writing competition in which authors were recommended to use open formats for their works. OpenOffice.org CD-ROMs, mugs and bags were produced and given away during fairs and conferences. Legislation ----------- Associazione PLIO participated in two committees aiming at drafting regional laws to foster free and open-source software. The law proposals, in the Italian regions of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Lombardia, are now approaching the final stages and will be voted upon by regional assemblies in the next months. Conferences ----------- Four members of Associazione PLIO attended the OOoCon in Barcelona and gave talks there. A national OpenOffice.org conference was organized too: it took place in Florence in October 2007 and attracted many participants and some new members. Another event will be organized in Udine in February 2008. -- Associazione PLIO - http://www.plio.it --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
