The Italian Native-Lang Project is itself an association, named PLIO
(Progetto Linguistico Italiano OpenOffice.org, which simply means
Italian OOo Native-Lang Project).

We decided to transition from an informal group to an association a
couple of years ago, and we succeded in encouraging the volunteers -the
most active of them, at least- to join the association. So there is
virtually no difference between people involved in PLIO and in the
Italian community.

The advantages of being an association include: possibility to receive
donations (from taxpayers too because we are recognized as a charity in
Italy), being a legally recognized organization (so we can be admitted
to working groups and official talks), having a well-defined internal
structure. The English version of our first press release can still be
found at

Our web site is http://www.plio.it/

Regards,
Andrea Pescetti - Italian N-L project lead.
