I considered this, but it might not be possible.  I'm unclear what
exactly triggers the error on Nexus - there's a distinct lack of
information - just a 400 Bad Request.

I found the following issue looking into that -
https://issues.sonatype.org/browse/NEXUS-13333  I'm unclear whether
that might be triggered by SNAPSHOT in a filename too, and the
filename is baked into other files - manifests, etc.  Unfortunately,
testing every hypothesis on this involves uploading almost 1GB of
artefacts - 7x is enough of that!

We'll have to rethink some of this for 12.2, but given other responses
my intention is to move to vote without cpplite tomorrow - I need to
regain access to something first!
