Weird. I created nbbuild/user.build.properties with one line:

nbjdk.home=/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.8.0-openjdk-amd64

but the build still failed saying it was trying to use JDK 9 code.

With -Dpermit.jdk9.builds=true it succeeded.

I must be losing my mind along with my hair.
