Just ran across an interesting way to handle the PMC Chair position from the Lucene/Solr community. They rotate the chair every year, unlike lots of other projects where the chair is basically enlisted for life. This helps spread the responsibility of writing board reports and other (generally thankless) administrative tasks, while also making the position more accessible since volunteers don't have to feel like they are committing for the next 20+ years.
Not saying this is right or wrong, just different and worth consideration.
