I'd suggest to: 1) officially release 9.04, announce it etc... 2) after that, create the new release candidate branch with the new layout 3) (optional, but it would be very cool) complete the layered lookups 4) as you suggest, do an announcement about great improvements in ui etc... compare 9.04 with new candidate release, add screenshots etc...
