In my opinion all the maintenance work (external jar upgrades, migration of old artifacts to newer best practices, code cleanups, improve code comments and code review, etc...) can be done in parallel with the slim down effort. If there is enough interest we could start discussing a plan for Java 7 too. Jacopo
