Absolutely! The JDK/JRE issue alone proves that an update is overdue.
I just wanted to answer your question why in the AOO codebase external
dependencies are sometimes patched instead of being simply upgraded to
the latest released version.
I understand it would be difficult to
constantly update to the latest release of a dependent project both in a
quality and release standpoint. With adequate planning and testing, the
code should also allow for an update to the latest without too many
gotchas.
