A. I was able to install Symphony 3.0.1 and the Fix Pack 2.  I also 
have obtained the rcplauncher.log, which is rather interesting.

B. When you are able to get Symphony operating, there is a feature
that will be interesting to understand the accessibility of.  There is
a sidebar on the right of the Symphony window that includes a variety
of dialogs and a way to select among them.  This is also a feature that
is being worked up for Apache OpenOffice 4.x.

C. For the record, here is what an rcplauncher.log looks like.  I have
broken up the long lines (with "\"s) to make it more readable. 
It would be useful to see what the rcplauncher.log you are getting 
looks like.
 
My notes on how I installed Symphony 3.0.1 are in (D) below all of this.

D. Here's the log of my experience:

 1. I used HTTP download in all cases, not the IBM downloader. All
    downloads were to file folders, without opening or running.
 2. I downloaded an additional spell-checker (Italian) but chose
    not to install it.  
 3. I then started the 3.0.1 install by double-clicking the down-
    loaded .exe file.  I checked to see where intermediate files 
    were stored.  Up to where the Software License Agreement was 
    presented by the Installation Wizard, I saw nothing anywhere 
    but in my user Temp folder.
 4. I accepted the default location for installation (in 
    C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Symphony\).
 5. I accepted the recommendation concerning file extensions.
 6. During the install I noticed that the "features" are identified
    by Java-style identifiers and I saw what might have been a Java
    dependency or two.
 7. The install ended successfully.  I elected to Open Lotus Symphony
    when clicking "Finish".
 8. First run was a bit slow.  A recommendation to Get and install
    the Fix Pack came up.  I closed Symphony instead, in preparation
    for installing the Fix Pack I had already downloaded.
 9. I did see Users/orcmid/IBM/Lotus/Symphony/ in my file system
    now.  That's an odd place to put AppData, but no big deal.
10. I checked the rcplauncher.log and found it interesting.  I have
    the impression that Lotus Symphony runs a Java Virtual Machine
    (JVM) internally.  That may be inaccurate, but it is what it
    looks like.
11. I restarted Vista first, to ensure that the 3.0.1 install was
    fully completed.
12. When the Fix Pack 2 InstallShield Wizard warned that Symphony should
    not be running, I saw that symphony was in the system tray.  It 
    went away but I am not sure I did anything to make that happen
    [;<).  (Too busy making notes while installing, distracted myself.)
13. The Fix Pack 2 installation completed without incident.
14. I restarted once again.
15. After restarting, double-clicking on the IBM Lotus Symphony icon
    on my desktop produced no result. 
16. In the Task Manager, I see that symphony.exe is a running process. 
    I ended the process.
17. Now Symphony started on double-click (slow again).  The system
    tray now holds the running quick-starter, which just appeared.  
    Symphony is offering me a Cloud plug-in and I am not taking the 
    option.
18. I created a little "Hello World" document (.odt) and saved it
    successfully.

have the same experience as you.  I will have Microsoft Security
Essentials and Windows Defender active, however.

I have no accessibility software installed or activated on the
system.

I did click on the “okay” button, and the installation continued. I
did, and the window containing the installer closed automatically.
Then, I tried clicking on the program from my desktop and my start
menu; however, the program did not open. I can try to troubleshoot it
when I have a lot of time; however, I am wondering if there are any
tips you or Dennis can offer for trying to get the program to work. I
will try whatever you can offer me.

I have also tried uninstalling this program from my computer, but it
does not show up in my control panel. If I need to remove it, and it
is possible I will need to because it is not working properly, I will
have to remove Symphony manually using more extensive methods.

I look forward to getting this program to work, so I can analyze it
and provide my input to you, since you will be using much of this
code.
