I think that the new link would look better if were directly below
the buttons and not to the right.

One reason is that on my window the link is too wide and “choose?” Is
wrapped to below the buttons anyway.

interesting. I'm working with a large resolution and big browser
windows (mostly fullsize). So, problems are not always visible.

As the text position is already in discussion it seems to be another
good argument to place the text elsewhere.

After choosing the favorite platform the users attention is still at
the 3 buttons (platform, language, version). So it's the best to place
the text directly below these buttons.

To place it to the right of the 2 download buttons is in this second
no longer in the users focus. Now it's "I want my download, now". ;-)

@All:
Let me play a bit with the download page. I'll come back with a
suggestion.

Meanwhile I did a small change to the Info Text:

https://github.com/apache/openoffice-org/commit/27dee325e964f29a3fa468a1e41d06e4b18bd87b

Is it still needed that we are holding back the publishing of the site?
I would like to have the Christmas logo reverted... ;-)

ah yes, the logo.

I have hoped to find also a hint text for Mac Users.
But OK, we can add this later.

I've now published the website.

Thanks!

We can now start to work on the Info Text for mac (or better the ARM
version of Big Sur)

OK, but lets use a new thread as the attention is higher compared to this "used" thread. ;-)

I've added a bit more magic:

https://openoffice-org.staged.apache.org/download/index.html

Now we can show a different text when Windows, Mac or Linux
install
files are selected. It's a short title with more text as
mouse-over.

For Linux it's known. However, for Windows and Mac we need the
info we
want to show the users.

Suggestions?

Thanks! That looks good!

For Windows I would suggest as title:

Additional notes for Windows!

Text:

At the moment we only offer a 32-bit (x86) version for Windows.
However, this version installs and runs also on Windows 64-bit
(x86-64).
Please note that you may need JAVA in 32-bit for additional
functionality.

Add: which must then be selected (one time only) in /Tools
/Options
/OpenOffice /Java

Maybe the wording can be enhanced...

with some ideas and line breaks from me I've the following for the
moment (only locally, not yet on staging):

Title:
"OpenOffice and Java - What to do?"

Text:
"At the moment there is a 32-bit (x86) version for Windows.
However,
this installs and runs also on Windows 64-bit (x86-64).
Please note that you may need Java in 32-bit for additional
functionality which must then be selected once only (see menu
'Tools -
Options - OpenOffice - Java').

For more information about OpenOffice and Java please see the
link on
the right 'Java and Apache OpenOffice'
Looks good, but *if* the URL is not clickable, I would leave it
out...

yes, it's in the mouse-over. So, I'll leave the link out.
