It seems that no one at Oracle/Sun's management realizes the importance of scripts/macros. E.g. OOo's scripting framework is written in Java, but to this very day they do not take advantage of that and add JSR-223 support to it. JSR-223 support means, that all scripting languages that work (available starting with Java 6, or from the Apache Software Foundation as BSF 3.0 which can be deployed for Java 1.4 and up) with Java, would be immediately be available for OOo! It would be possible to write a single editor which would edit and run all JSR-223 scripts out of the box. Unbelievably, this has not been done to this very day. If there was JSR-223 support in OOo's scripting framework then one could use Jython as well. (Of course the OOo language binding of Python would make "pure" Python desirable.) Again, if strategic, tactical thoughts would play a role in this important context of OOo scripting too, then such changes/additions would have been implemented long ago. My hope is that eventually the forces in power wake up as long as there is time... ;) ---rony --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [email protected] For additional commands, e-mail: [email protected]
