Well, Google DOES it this way. I can enter the address in almost any
order and it at least presents me "did you mean?". Also, if you are
talking about navi software that is ought to be used in cars, why not
display suggestion based on what's typed and force the user to choose
something from this list.
This is fast, because it saves the user from spelling the whole street
and noticing he has mistyped and correcting it again on a small touch
screen. Since you can only navigate anywhere if you know that street
there's no point anyway in letting them type anything. (plus, hiding
impossible letters makes hitting "keys" much easier).
Also, unless you have a HUGE screen, you need an extra click anyway to
bring up the numpad.

But still, flash cards have transfer rates of several MB/s plus like
500 Mhz CPUs which even may go up. Even if it's impossible now, it
might in the future :)
