Hi, For rendering with very easy customization of advanced styles, have you looked at the coming qgis 1.7.0? It allows to define styles with rules based on multiple attributes and scale levels, and it includes a fastcgi webserver nd a full javascript web frontend. Some demo for the backend styling: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBBYtH2svw0
Some live demo for server and js frontend: http://gis.uster.ch/ It would be great to have this packaged in your solution as well! I wrote several of the steps for this to work here: http://www.qgis.org/wiki/Using_OpenStreetMap_data I'll be happy to help with this!
