Yes, the environment variable setup can live in a helper script.
I meant to send out detailed information about running functional
tests on CATS but have been waiting for Olivier to finish some
architectural changes. In the meantime here's all the information
about running CATS.

You can specify the tests to be run in a script file and pass it as a
parameter to RunChandler using the --scriptFile parameter. There is
example file created called FunctionalTestList1.py under qa/chandler/
CATS/QATestScripts.

+5. Or +1 if I really only get one vote :).
A couple of questions:
1. Can the environment variable setup just live in the helper
script? To me, that seems cleaner.
2. How would you specify to the script which test(s) should be run?
Presumably there'll be some kind of usage to say which tests can be
run, too.

I'm working on integrating the great work Olivier has done with
CATS into the tinderbox environment and I also wanted to make sure
that any developer who wanted to run a functiional test could do
so easily - to that end I am going to be making the following
changes and wanted to run it by the dev list for a feedback vote.
- add a svn:exernal "link" to chandler/tools/ directory that
points to http://svn.osafoundation.org/qa/chandler/CATS/
repository. This will allow any chandler checkout to also grab
the required files to run the functional tests.
- Modify the RunChandler and RunPython scripts to include the
environment variables that CATS requires
- create a helper script in chandler/tools/ that runs a given
functional test or all of them
I would like to have the voting period for this be from now till
Noon PDT tomorrow.
