Thanks to Vinoo and Micah -- the website is now back up and looking good.

(Vinoo's PR is a "delete some code to fix a bug", my favorite kind of PR)

I do think it is worth considering some more changes to how the site is
built but now there is no time pressure and we can discuss using issues
below.
