In my opinion the situation is the other way around,
{{PDPageTree.insertBefore(...)}} / {{PDPageTree.insertAfter(...)}} should use
{{==}} to check for identity of the underlying dictionaries, not {{.equals}}.
Chances are, though, that there are more uses of {{equals}} in PDFBox which
actually should be uses of {{==}}.
Probably all occurrences of {{equals}} in PDFBox should be checked...
