No, no, please don't go above 2.0.46 just yet. 2.0.47 is still new and if users are on systems where they need/want to run pre-packaged versions, it's quite possible that 2.0.47 is still not available as a package.
yeah, that's a consideration. I've cleaned up the code to remove all back-compat stuff for versions prior to 2.0.46. I'll let it run through my nightly builds and see how it went tomorrow.
Even 2.0.46 is pretty new, only 3 months old.
yes. with 2.0.48 on the way, supporting two versions back is a good idea.
If we set the requirement too high, it'll prevent from some people to help us test mod_perl 1.99.
most people wanting to test at this point are not likely to be testing against production, so I doubt that people willing to test mp2 are all that limited by their apache version.
