I think post 4.8, as long as the distro venders have support for HBase 1.1+, we can stop maintaining and doing releases from our 1.0 branch (I believe CDH is still on 1.0, no?). However, if someone from the community wants to step up as th RM and back port fixes and have more 1.0 based releases, that'd be ok too.
