Superb -- thanks for the acknowledgement!

Agreed that folks have been pretty busy lately and activity has declined. I
want to think through the options and issues that Joe and Josh have raised
and will come back with my thoughts early next week.

Well put, Joe.

(Btw, I was that mentor mentioned previously)

While I'm not always eyes-on with low latency, I do try to be eyes-on
eventually. The concerns that Joe has raised saved me the trouble of
raising this concern myself in the near future.

The issue with this happening to an early-life podling is that there is no
one else keep things going. When people move on, the reality is retirement
at the ASF. This isn't meant to be a threat or similar, just a hard truth.

If there's anything I've come to appreciate more as of late, it's that
software truly is the easy part of an ASF project. Cultivating growth in a
way that attracts and encourages new participation is extremely difficult
and time consuming. Couple this with the fact that software itself is still
very difficult leads to people being stretched thin (completely ignoring
personal and professional happenings)

Again, this isn't meant to be a threat, just a gentle of a push that this
is a big warning sign from (some of) your mentors. We're all here to help
you succeed, but it's very tough for us to do that when there's only
silence.

Team,

We appear to have lost momentum. The last substantive email I see in
the mailing lists is in Dec 2016 from a contributor attempting to
contribute a PR but no reply. The last significant code commit into
the repo was early Nov 2016 and really trailed off in Oct 2016.

It will be important to either work to rebuild momentum or consider
retirement as outlined here [1]. In our last report it was noted by
one mentor that activity has dropped off. With our incubator report
due next month we should aim to have a more definitive path in play.
