We've been using SXSSFWorkbook for some of our tools, with a
lot of success lately.
We're using Rest FB, and taking Posts (messages in diverse
unicode encodings) and inserting them into our workbook.
Lately, we've seen that a random "xml invalid character"
error message appear in Excel.
While we couldn't find the exact "post message that was
generating this error, we found a quick fix using XSSFWorkbook instead.
To try to curate the data, we've used commons-lang-3
StringUtils.escapeXml on every piece of data that entered the SXSSFWorkbook.
That didn't work.
Our posts are very diverse. They can contain unicode chars,
tags, texts in different languages or any other kind of ascii art you can
think of.
Still, we haven't had a problem with it so far. Unicode,
japanese, chinese, hebrew, any other unicode combination of chars was ok.
For a period of 2, 3 months of usage, without a single
problem.
While we're ok in using XSSFWorkbook as a quick-fix to this
issue, I'd pretty much want to help in solving this error in SXSSFWorkbook.
I can provide a corrupted XLSX with a separated CSV of all
the data where this bug comes from.
We're using apache-poi-3.8-beta5.
