IIRC, when I did a course some years back, we were taught that number or 
numeric fields were only to be used for numbers which were to be used for 
performing operations on (adding, subtracting, averaging etc...). Any field 
which was not going to be subject to an arithmetic operation should be 
entered into a text field.

You should be able to enter a telephone number (international or otherwise) 
into a text field without a problem.

BTW, I'm in Queensland. Pity you are with a different ISP, although if you 
were using Agile for your land-line it would help, because you could then get 
cheap phone calls to me :)

OTOH, I could call you if you'd like to talk directly about this problem 
(although I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination). I have learnt a 
little about databases at TAFE... :)
