Thanks also from me for your careful analysis. I apologise to the extent
that I have contributed to the confusion.

Proper interworking between Word and Writer is crucial. Around 50% of
the problems referred to me over the past couple of years have been in
this area. Based on an email from a Sun employee which seemed to confirm
the graphics import issue as a regression, it seemed important to stop
communities with mixed usage upgrading. Explaining which documents you
could exchange and which not would have been too complex. Waiting the 7
weeks for 3.0.1 would have been better.

Of course we all appreciate the huge amount of effort put into 3.0 and
the new functionality. Nothing should take away from that. However,
several of my users will equally complain about anything that has
changed because it confuses them for a while and I wouldn't want to
compound that with a regression that they were very likely to experience.

I hope that helps to explain where I was coming from.
