I just spoke to Fredrik and he told me that the issue 93340 he mentioned
is about Office 2003 XML EXPORT. So beside the number ("2003") it has
nothing to do with the .doc graphics-lost-on-import problem that sparked
this discussion.
However,...
ONE issue to discourage upgrading entirely? - This sounds very exaggerated.
ONE issue overweighting all fixes and features, all developers blood
sweat and tears on the road to OOo 3.0?
Mhmm, exaggerated still does not sound like the best word for this
view... :-(
Here is my evaluation:
Concerning the graphics, the document opens ALIKE in OOo 2.4.1 and OOo 3.0:
- 2 graphics are not displayed, instead the second graphic is displayed
three times.
- Same findings when re-saving the document with MS Word 2002 or MS Word
2003(XP) before import
This makes NO REGRESSION!
Re-saved with the latest MS Word (2007) or with MS Word 2000, all
graphics are shown correctly after import.
Both OOo 2.4.1 and OOo 3.0. Again, this makes NO REGRESSION.
Now, what about the document layout?
The original document has 2 pages.
Opened in OOo 2.4.1, it has 3 pages
Opened in OOo 3.0, it has 2 pages
-> Not a regression, but some kind of fixed issue!
So if we reduce the recommendation of OOo 3.0 to this very case...
...we can recommend OOo 3.0 because it imports this document BETTER that
OOo 2.4.1
And after issuezilla decides do co-operate again, the problem will get
evaluated and tracked.
