I'm a resolute fan of slogans that clearly say what Apache Qpid is, both for people and for search engines. I would like people searching for AMQP to find our web page, and I'd like our slogan to clearly tell people that we do AMQP.

To me, a slogan that doesn't clearly say Qpid does messaging using AMQP doesn't meet the basic requirements.

Square, us ?

Ha. I scoff at the thought. Seriously, without offence - we are definitely
all square :-)

Playful indeed ..... how about:

Qpid, Message and be damned

I am glad that my first post to qpid list is on a matter of such gravity.

I think Rafi is right, and any buzzword-haevy slogan makes us look like
squares. Never!

Truly, something more playful is in order, something that speaks from (and
to) a community of fun-loving, geeky software peeps. "Enterprisey" and
"extra profitable!" can be added in some *other* prominent location; they
don't have to be in the slogan.

Subject: Re: Qpid slogan?

I tend to think the most important thing a slogan can do is grab the
attention of the reader, and while I do recognize it is tempting to try
to work in all the usual buzzwords (AMQP, Messaging, Enterprise, etc),
so far everything that does this ends up being so bland that it's almost
completely unmemorable.

I'd like to suggest that we consider another direction for the slogan.
Something that doesn't necessarily include all (or any) of the
buzzwords, but does grab enough of your attention that hopefully you
might consider reading further. I'd like to see a few options in this
vein before making a final decision.

So in the spirit of brainstorming, here are a few random ideas that (for
better or worse) would stick in my head longer than 3 seconds after
reading them.

Apache Qpid: Qpid is as Qpid does.

Apache Qpid: No pants. No shirts. Just middleware.[*]

  I'm with Qpid[**]

[*] Works best next to an appropriate logo, e.g.:

[**] Not really a slogan per/se, but would make a great T-shirt for Qpid
developers. ;)

Just keeping this thread going here is another summary of the
suggested slogans I added one more at the end, which is a combination
of two previous ones really. Tried to capture the 'love' angle for
Rob, highlighting the fact that you could never really fall in love
with messaging before AMQP.

Apache Qpid, AMQP Enterprise Messaging
Apache Qpid: Fast, Reliable, AMQP Messaging
Apache Qpid: Advanced Messaging, Quick, Purposeful
Apache Qpid, AMQP Enterprise Messaging that just works.
Apache Qpid, Enterprise Messaging through AMQP
Apache Qpid, AMQP Enterprise Messaging

Apache Qpid: Messaging for the AMQP Generation
Start AMQP Messaging with Apache Qpid
Apache Qpid: Standardised Messaging with AMQP
Got Messaging? Think AMQP. Think Apache Qpid.
Apache Qpid, messaging with added AMQP

Fall in love with messaging. Stay safe with Apache Qpid and AMQP.
Tell someone you love them. Give them the message with Apache Qpid and
AMQP.
Fall in love with messaging for the first time. Apache Qpid: Open
Standard Messaging with AMQP

Lets see if we can narrow this down to a short list of less than 5 for a
vote.

Sadly at this point I ran out of ways to make messaging sound
exciting. Maybe I should start watching Mad Men.
I can't help feeling that we should try to work in a Qpid / Cupid /
Falling in love type theme... though the thought of falling in love
with messaging is obviously perverse :-)
