At the time i worked on this the concensus was to never do any more 8.11 
bug fixes and all of the 8x jenkins jobs were turned off.

I have no objection to @Ignoring these tests on 8x if you don't feel like 
backporting my fixes (as i said -- i don't rememebr the details enough to 
know how confident i am that backporting is a good idea)

That sounds .... bizare.

But I still don't really understand what issue you're having with "see 
solr.log" ... are you saying the server side log messages aren't showing 
up in the test output like they normally do?
