3.3.x has only been available since 2010-01-27.
Dropping support for mission critical software after only providing 4
months to do a major upgrade is bullshit.
I'm not sure where you get 4 months from. I see over a year of time
myself, given that this is 2011, not 2010.
Dropping support without even mentioning it on the website is similarly
poor.
Compare Ubuntu's 5 years of support for LTS releases on servers.
Ubuntu LTS is an entire Operating System worth of software, which is what
they are guaranteeing. I would posit anyone continuing to use the version
of OpenLDAP shipped with a 5 year old Ubuntu LTS system to run a production
LDAP service is nuts. If you want to run a base linux system, sure it's
fine. If you want to keep up with the times, you're going to need to be
able to know how to upgrade individual packages. SpamAssassin isn't a
server operating system, it is a software package. I fully would expect
people to understand how to upgrade in to the latest release in the last
1.5 years.
