@pwendell For jcl, yeah have a look at places where this PR excludes
commons-logging, like for netty and jets3t. jul is used by, well, Java's own
libraries I suppose. I suppose the thought was to let everything be controlled
centrally. Shimming a java.* class always felt a bit funny, but, on the other
hand I trust slf4j works. FWIW those were the thoughts.
