I merged this locally, and it tested out fine, but there are now a few
merge conflicts. Resolving them seemed straightforward, but now the behavior I
see in the unit tests is a never-ending loop of zookeeper reconnects.
@revans2 @d2r @harshach Do you mind doing a sanity check against what was
recently merged?
