Sun has tried that branding approach as well on occastion (including the
previous version of the product I'm responsible for ... "Sun Java Studio
Creator 2004Q2" was *not* my idea :-). But it also doesn't meet user
expectations around version numbers -- chiefly the (somewhat theoretical :-)
distinction between major and minor updates. Thankfully, our next version
will be "Sun Java Studio Creator 2.0".

And, I seem to recall Microsoft getting razzed pretty loudly when they
almost missed the calendar for Windows 98 and Windows 2000 releases that
were very nearly in the following year ...
