As someone who was close to the project when 'svn st -u' was conceived, I
agree with Bert's evaluation of the intent of that feature, and by
extension, agree that the behavior changed in a bad way -- albeit
inadvertently -- when we added the depth stuff.  But that's water under the
bridge now.  I agree with Stefan that any harm done by the behavior change
has been done already, and there's no reason to further penalize API
consumers with a second change of behavior.  Let's just preserve the 1.6.x
behavior for _status4().
