I have spent many years at BBN and MIT with all sorts of social misfits. Some of them were brilliant and worth it, some were not. If you think this guy is worth what he's dishing out, fine, have private discussions with him and put up with his abuse yourself. But to allow this kind of thing on a public mailing list is a very different sort of thing. It reflects badly on your project and your work, and I think some minimum level of decorum is needed here.
