The regular visual is the last keybind from vi I learned to use and i for me 
would prefer it, 'cause it's one key to be pressed. My mind is very impaired 
for this use case, and suggests only one alternative: sam or teco addressing.

More on this: I don't remember how that works in TECO, but in sam (and acme) 
you can execute verbs on an address that matches a character range. For 
example, 
imagining we are editing this email I'm sending with this patched sandy, 
:#855,#859d would delete the word 'sandy'.
